Staff Officer, NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence
Commander Jon Sunderland is a U.S. Naval Flight Officer currently serving at the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence. He dual-hat's as both a Senior Expert within the Doctrine, Concepts, and Experimentation branch and as the U.S. Senior National Representative.
Commissioned in 2001, he has served in a variety of positions worldwide. At sea, he has served operationally in units including Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron TWO, Combined Special Operations Task Force Arabian Peninsula, USS NIMITZ, and U.S. Naval Forces Central Command. Ashore, CDR Sunderland has served within Fleet and community capacities including Naval Aviation Systems Command and Commander Task Force SIX SEVEN. He completed MBA studies at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland in 2009 and a Master’s degree at the Naval War College in 2012. In 2018, he was designated as a joint maritime planner.
